Jared Putnam
Mixed Media Artist
Jared Putnam was born in New York City to John Putnam- Art Director of Mad Magazine, and Jane Putnam- Painter. He now lives in Albuquerque, NM with his two kids Jack and Claire. Music has been his primary focus for most of his life. His main instruments are upright bass and guitar. He enjoys writing and recording music in his home studio. He has played with Hector Pimentel, Syd Masters, Lynn Anderson, Le Chat Lunatique, Dust City Opera and many others. He has also toured extensively and has seen much of the world playing music. He works as a cashier at La Montañita Co-op and also enjoys juggling, roller skating and working on his mid-century modern house. Most recently he has added painting to the mix. He started by doodling on paper bags at work during lulls and decided to try taking the doodles home and turning them into paintings. He was pleased with the results and decided to continue in this pursuit. Each of his paintings includes the original paper bag doodle taped to the back! His style is heavily influenced by his own father’s artwork which he created in the 60s and 70s. Jared’s paintings are made using Acrylic paint (applied with a sponge), masking tape, an Xacto knife and a ruler. No computers, no math. Each one requires many hours to make because Jared is fussy and wants them to be as close to perfect as possible.
