Robyn Wellman

Robyn Wellman

Mixed Media Artist
New Mexico (NM) artist Robyn Wellman’s family has lived in NM for five generations, from her great grandmother, born in a sod dugout on a ranch near Nara Visa, NM to all four of her children. Robyn was born in Clovis, NM to parents who were graduate students at Eastern New Mexico University (ENMU). Later Robyn would be the fourth generation woman in her family to graduate from ENMU.

Raised in Farmington, NM, Robyn has also lived among some of the states most spectacular NM scenery surrounding Alamogordo, Albuquerque, and Aztec. From the dunes of White Sands, to the majesty of the Rocky Mountains, and the winding San Juan River, Robyn has soaked up the beauty of New Mexico and recreated that beauty on canvas.

Robyn, a student of New Mexico history as well as its beauty, has wandered among the old churches nestled in ancient pueblos, walked along coyote fences lined with hollyhocks in Santa Fe, sat beside the Chama River and the towering cottonwoods growing along its banks, gazing out at the vast expanse of land scattered with chamisa and juniper and piñon trees. The azure blue of New Mexico skies and the billowing white cumulonimbus clouds that announce an approaching thunderstorm have inspired many of Robyn’s paintings.

As fellow artists and patrons have pointed out, Robyn is a talented colorist. Her art draws upon the vivid colors of New Mexico, the reds and greens of homegrown chile, the turquoise on the doors of traditional adobe homes, the deep earth tones found in the land, and the pastels of the ubiquitous hollyhocks. You are invited to step into Robyn’s virtual gallery and see the beauty of New Mexico for yourself.
