Katie Burkstaller
Mixed Media Artist
In 2015 Katie left her corporate life of 22 years in search of one that fueled her
creativity and passions. She is inspired by the natural beauty in New Mexico and
enjoys layering these colors, shapes and landscapes into her artwork.
Katie's primary medium is Beeswax in the form of Wax Encaustic on panels and Wax Monotypes on paper. Encaustic paint is heated beeswax with damar resin and
pigment painted onto hard surfaces or paper.
Building up many layers of wax only to scrape them away is an exciting process that allows Katie to communicate the idea that nothing is permanent or perfect and can always change. It gives her the freedom to experiment, play and take risks to reveal a story underneath the layers.
