Sarah McCord
Mixed Media Artist
Sarah E. McCord is a Burqueño who infuses her work with metaphysical symbolism, her subjects often hallowed by a faintly glowing aura or encircled by a golden ring. Using art making as the ultimate conversation starter, she seeks out opportunities for advocacy and social justice work and is active in creating art workshops and programs in her community. She can also be found on Instagram at @sarahemcordart, @bealiveartistryanddesign and at sarahemccordart.com.
Always an intuitive in her path to artistic growth and creative development Sarah has
self-selected the teachers and influences she feels most relevant to her developing artistic practice including Kerry Dunn, Rachel Powpowcer, Dorielle Camini, Shawna Levenson and the mentorship of Sean Wells as well as committed involvement with her local arts community with alliances formed through local arts groups such as Coffee and Creatives, Mothership Alumni gallery and the Metaphysical Art Gallery.
Throughout her life she has experienced many traumatic events which she labors to transform into works of beauty and inspiration for herself and others. Also, since childhood she has created objects for gift giving and relied on artmaking as a mode of self-exploration, self-expression, performance, and communication. She continues to use the principles of gifting art to others through her workshops, social justice activism and involvement in both her local and multinational artistic community. A participant in the Prison Creative Arts Program and Creative Catalyst, she increasingly relies on art making, collaboration and critique as a means of forming connection, growth and healing within the arts and larger community.
Her works have been shown in galleries such as Tortuga Gallery, Mothership Alumni, OFF Center, OT Circus and metaphysicalartgallery.com.
