Victor Alfonso Roman
Mixed Media Artist
My name is Victor Alfonso Roman. I’m a first generation Mexican-American based out of Albuquerque, New Mexico. Much of my influence comes from New Mexican culture and the beauty that surrounds its people. The individuals around me have not only influenced my art, but have also continuously taught me more about it. With no formal education when it comes to New Mexican culture, I strive to continue to learn from everyone around me and the lessons that life has taught me over the course of my time here.
It feels like I’ve only recently started my craft but in reality, I’ve been working on it since 2017, and possibly even before that without even realizing it. Since 2017, I’ve been a featured artist at 5G Gallery, local restaurants such as the Slice Parlor, and shopping locations like Buffalo Exchange.
I wish to leave beauty in my community and eventually beyond this in a way that resonates and stays within the culture forever. With so many imperfections around us, I like to use my art as a reminder that mistakes can be fixed, worked with, and/or made the best of. I use the sewing in my canvas to represent these same principles in small details in order to create a bigger picture.
There is nothing profound I find to accomplish my art. Rather, I pursue a personal connection between individuals and my art. A personal message to my community and my people that we’re perfect in our imperfections.
